The SSC GD exam is the General Duty Constable examination conducted annually by the Staff Selection Commission for the recruitment of eligible personnel in various Government departments and Ministries of the country. The post of Constable (General Duty) in Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sash Astra Seema Bal (SSB), National Investigation Agency (NIA) & Secretariat Security Force (SSF) and Rifleman (General Duty) Posts in Assam Rifles are filled through this exam.

Those applicants who qualify written examination will be eligible for the medical test and those candidates who qualify the medical tests will be appointed as GD Constable Posts.
Phase 1/ Tier 1 of the SSC GD Constable Exam
It consists of 4 subjects which are:
- General Intelligence and Reasoning
- Elementary Mathematics
- General Knowledge and General Awareness
- English/ Hindi.
Here are some important points needed to keep in mind while preparing for the exam:
- Phase 1/ Tier 1 consists of 100 questions from 4 different subjects
- All questions are objective type with 4 different options
- Candidates will get 1 mark for each correct answer and – 0.25 marks for each wrong answer
- Candidates will get 90 minutes for the complete test
- The questions and options will be given in both English and Hindi Language
- Each section has 25 questions. Every question is for 1 mark.
- SSC has pre-fixed the minimum cut off marks for the computer-based examination.

SSC GD Constable Physical Efficiency Test- TIER 2
The candidates who clear the PST will be called for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). This examines the endurance and fitness level of the male and female candidates through a race.
The details of the SSC GD PET are as follows.
- Pregnant women are disqualified from taking the SSC GD PET.
- Ex-servicemen are exempted from taking the PET.
- However, the Ex-servicemen have to appear for the Detailed Medical Examination (DME).
Race:
- Male – 5 Kms in 24 minutes
- Female – 1.6 Kms in 8 ½ minutes
For candidates of Ladakh Region:
- Male – 1 Mile in 6 ½ minutes
- Female – 800 metres in 4 minutes
SSC GD Constable Physical Standards Test- TIER 3

Detailed Medical Examination (DME)- TIER 4
Candidates who qualify the PET/ PST are shortlisted for the DME. The candidates who fail the medical test will not be considered eligible for the post. The selected candidates are medically examined by the Medical Boards constituted by the CAPFs to assess their physical and medical fitness on the basis of the following points:
