SSC Stenographer Syllabus 2021

SSC Stenographer exam is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to recruit eligible candidates for Stenographer Grade C (Age Limit is18-30 years) and Grade D (Age Limit is 18-27 years) non-gazetted posts in various government ministries, departments, and offices. Important points about the SSC Stenographer CBT exam 

  • Candidates have to complete the CBT exam in 2 hours
  • One mark is awarded for each right answer and 0.25 marks are deducted for every wrong answer.

Skill Test – All those candidates who clear the computer-based exam have to appear for the skill test in stenography. The skill test is basically conducted to test the speed of candidates.

In this stage, candidates are given a dictation in English or Hindi for 10 minutes. Candidates aiming to qualify in this test, are required to type the dictation at the speed of 100 words per minute for Stenographer Grade C post and 80 words per minute for Grade D post.

SSC Stenographer Syllabus 2021 for General Awareness

The next subject of the SSC Stenographer exam is general awareness. 50 questions are asked on this subject. The objective of this section is to test the general awareness of candidates about the environment around them. Questions from this section are designed to test the knowledge of candidates about current events.

The topics included under General Awareness are as follows:

  1. India and its neighboring countries
  2. Current events- National and International
  3. Geography of India
  4. Culture and Heritage of India
  5. History of India
  6. Indian Constitution
  7. Social events related to India
  8. General Politics
  9. Science and Technology
  10. Sports
  11. The economic scenario of India

These are the topics that candidates need to study for clearing the general awareness section.

SSC Stenographer Syllabus for English Language & Comprehension

The next subject of the SSC Stenographer examination is English Language & Comprehension. 100 questions are asked on this subject. The objective of this section is to test the understanding of candidates of the English language that includes grammar, vocabulary, sentence structure, antonyms, synonyms, writing ability and correct usage of the language.

These books will help candidates prepare well for the English language & comprehension. Candidates can score in the SSC Stenographer exam with the right amount of preparation. Candidates should solve mock tests and previous year’s question papers, along with studying the recommended books. They should make a timetable and devote time to all three subjects. Regular practice will help candidates perform better on the day of the examination.

SC Stenographer Exam Pattern for Tier II

SSC Stenographer Skill Test is done on both Paper and Computer

  • The shorthand test will have to be done on the Shorthand Notepad and the same has to be transcribed on a computer.
  • The skill test language can be either English or Hindi.
  • The language of the skill test has to be chosen by the candidates while filling up the form only.
  • But if the candidate does not choose any language, then the skill test will be done in English only.

The candidates will be dictated a passage at the following speed.

  • For Stenographer Group ‘D’: 80 words per minute (w.p.m) for 8 Minutes
  • For Stenographer Group ‘C’: 100 words per minute (w.p.m) for 10 Minutes

After taking down the shorthand notes the candidates will have to transcribe the same on the computer. The Skill Test will be qualifying in nature.
